Malören Lodge has been honoured with several prestigious awards – a testament to our long-term commitment to sustainable tourism and the preservation of Malören’s unique environment and cultural heritage.

🔹 Environmental Award 2020 – Kalix Municipality
Since 1998, Kalix Municipality has annually presented an Environmental Award to individuals, businesses, or organisations that have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection and circular practices. In 2020, the award was given to Malören Lodge, following five separate nominations from the public.

The reasons included:
– our investment in solar energy to reduce CO₂ emissions
– our use of organic products
– interior design using recycled materials from the island
– a strong commitment to recycling and waste separation

The municipal board stated in their motivation:
“Their entire business is in harmony with nature and the environment.”

– “I was overjoyed – it's such a great recognition,” said Hanna Engström, who runs Malören Lodge with her husband Patrik.
– “Out here, sustainability becomes second nature. Everything is limited – we melt snow for water and use solar panels to generate power. Our guests are also highly conscious and respectful of the environment. Many even bring bags to pick up litter on the beach. Their mindset has further strengthened my own environmental commitment.”

On June 18th, 2025, we are proud to receive two new awards:
